The Untold Story of the Sulu Freedom Fighters of World War II
Printed by the author or a very small press, sold direct or on demand: the link goes to where they offer it.
The Tausug guerrillas who fought the Japanese in Sulu, told by a physician who was the youngest commander in the Sulu Area Command in 1945.
Ernesto M. Espaldon (1926 to 2006) joined the guerrillas of the Sulu Area Command at 16, during the Japanese occupation. The book's front matter names him the youngest commander in the Sulu Area Command in 1945. After the war he became a surgeon and settled in Guam, where he later served as a senator.
This is his account of the guerrilla resistance in Sulu during the Second World War, in which, as one description puts it, Muslim and Christian Filipinos fought side by side. Library records file it under personal narratives of the war and underground movements in the Sulu archipelago. It was published in 1997 by the Espaldon-Virata Foundation and distributed by Ateneo de Manila University Press, with a foreword by President Fidel V. Ramos.
