A research study and resource guide from IID's Bangsamoro Transformative Justice Initiatives project, 2017 to 2019. It explains transitional justice, dealing with the past and reconciliation, and records community stories of survival and truth-telling.
This study comes from the Initiatives for International Dialogue's Bangsamoro Transformative Justice Initiatives project, 2017 to 2019. Over 2 years the team listened to Moro, indigenous and settler survivors of violence in Mindanao. The work built on the Transitional Justice and Reconciliation Commission of the Bangsamoro peace process.
The book has 4 parts. Part 1 sets out the research and its Mindanao context. Part 2 reviews ideas of transitional justice, reconciliation and restorative justice from around the world. Part 3 gives 5 community case studies, including stories from a Moro child of war, the Ilaga, Mt. Firis and post-war Marawi, and looks at indigenous, Moro and Christian sources of justice.
Part 4 analyses the findings and proposes a framework that roots community-based restorative justice in dealing with the past. It ends with policy recommendations for government, culture, education and the security sector.
