Tausug dishes from a home cook, printed on demand: tiyula itum, pastil, satti and the rest.
This cookbook, subtitled The Best of Home-Cooked Halal Tausug-Filipino Dishes, collects recipes from the author's family, passed down from one generation to the next. Abdulaziz H. Hamsain calls sharing them a lifetime project. His aim, he says, is not only to adapt the family recipes but to preserve and promote the dishes as a part of Tausug culture.
Hamsain is a Tausug who was born and raised in Saudi Arabia and has lived and worked in the Philippines, in the outsourcing industry in Manila. He shows Tausug cooking in videos on YouTube and promotes Tausug culture, history and origins through his website. The book is printed on demand through Blurb. Its international edition, first published on 15 February 2020, has 78 pages in a 6 by 9 inch format, in softcover and hardcover.
