The Birth of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front
No longer sold new: look for it in a library, or for a used copy.
The government–MILF talks from February 1997 to June 2010, told by a Maguindanaon historian and lawyer who sat on the Front’s peace panel.
Datu Michael Mastura, a Maguindanaon historian and lawyer, was a senior member of the MILF peace panel when he wrote this book. In his prologue he calls it an inside account of the talks between the government and the MILF, from 23 February 1997 to 3 June 2010. In May 2012 he gave copies to members of the government panel across the table.
It was published in 2012 by the Southeast Asia Conflict Studies Network and Research and Education for Peace at Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang. A review in the Asia Mindanaw journal of Ateneo de Zamboanga described it as a mix of reconstructed historical narrative and political analysis of nationalist and separatist movements, with legal and policy proposals, written from Mastura's own point of view.
