The Moro Islamic Liberation Front’s own history of the Bangsamoro, from the sultanates through colonial rule to the MNLF and the MILF, written by its chief negotiator under a pen name. The third edition of 1999 is the one usually cited.
This is a history of the Bangsamoro written from inside the Moro struggle. Its 12 chapters run from the early peoples and the birth of the sultanates, through Spanish invasion, American rule and annexation to the Philippines, to settlement, displacement and war in Mindanao and Sulu. The last chapters follow the peace talks with the MNLF and the MILF. Appendices include population tables and a list of massacres by the Ilaga.
Salah Jubair joined the Moro movement in 1972 as a young graduate and rose in the MNLF. He later sat on the MILF Central Committee and chaired its information committee. He began the book when the MILF was based in Pakistan. The first edition appeared in Lahore in 1984, a revised one in 1997 and the third, published in Kuala Lumpur, in 1999.
In his foreword Michael O. Mastura gives the book's core thesis: that "the Moros are a wronged people".
