On the Trail with Filipino Soldiers
Still in print: the link goes to a shop that sells it.
Years on the road with the army in Mindanao and Sulu, and the soldiers who found themselves building schools as often as fighting.
Peace Warriors: On the Trail with Filipino Soldiers is journalist Criselda Yabes' account of time spent in the field with Philippine Army officers and soldiers in Mindanao. She earlier wrote The Boys from the Barracks, about the military after EDSA.
A review by a young army officer describes it as true stories of officers, soldiers and other key figures in Mindanao, both Muslim and Christian, set against the MILF, the MNLF and the Abu Sayyaf. It shows how soldiers lived in the field, and how they fit into the search for lasting peace. "Mindanao is complex," Yabes writes. "Every village, every town, every province has a story of its own." Library records give Anvil Publishing as the publisher, with a date of 2011.
