A peace-education resource that grounds lessons on peace in Islamic teaching, for use in Muslim communities and madaris. It has articles in English and some in Arabic.
This peace education manual for Muslim schools and madaris was made by the Philippine Council for Islam and Democracy (PCID) with The Asia Foundation and the Magbassa Kita Foundation, and published in Mandaluyong City in 2008. In her preface Amina Rasul explains that it grew from a 2004 visit by Dr. Asna Husin, who had worked with the ulama and madrasah teachers of Aceh in Indonesia on a peace curriculum after the armed conflict there. The PCID team included ulama and educators such as Moner Bajunaid and Hamid Barra.
The manual is a set of lessons in 7 chapters: foundations of peace in Islam, stewardship of creation and the environment, rights and responsibilities, including those of women and children, democracy, justice and good governance, conflict and its resolution, leadership in Islam, and jihad and peace. The last chapter presents jihad at several levels, including the jihad of the heart, and as an instrument of peace. Most of the text is in English, with some articles in Arabic.
